We were a new hospice and were fortunate to be the first to use this self-study program for over a year before it was made available to the public.  This time frame allowed us to use the materials for our volunteer training as well as to go through our first year and first survey process.  We love this program and know it has allowed us to establish a pool of volunteers quickly and efficiently.  I have volunteers in training continually, watching the DVD’s and completing their quizzes.  I meet with each one to talk about the information, about our hospice, and  review the quizzes with them.  By meeting with them, I make sure they will be a good fit for our program.  I am adding new volunteers on a regular basis.

Volunteer Comments:

“The voice on the DVD’s is so relaxed, easy to listen to and understand.  I like having the same voice throughout so I don’t have to key in to a new voice.”

“I come from Africa and sometimes have difficulty with language here in the US.  I found that I could understand the voice and materials presented on the DVD’s.  It was much clearer and easier to follow than being in a classroom setting with other distractions.  I could focus and follow along, helping me feel confident that I will be ready to take on this new volunteer role.  I needed a little help with the language on the quizzes, but understood the materials.  I was able to compete the exams with a little help from our volunteer coordinator.”

Volunteer coordinators and directors from across the United States have purchased our Hospice Volunteer Training Series.  Each has their own unique system of incorporating and using our materials as part of their complete training process.  If you would like to speak to a volunteer coordinator who uses our materials as part of their training, please e-mail us.

I like using the materials  because then I can spend more time with the volunteers just

answering questions, getting to know them, interviewing, etc. We've gone from 6 volunteers to almost 40 in 3 months, so it is nice to be able to get them started right away without having to try to sync up all of their schedules.  Keep up the good work!

Your DVD training program has been such a hit with my volunteers, that I’ve got a waiting list for folks wanting to do their training this way!  Many people have found it much easier to train at home, rather than wait for a classroom-type training that fits their schedules.  Fortunately, there will always be those who enjoy that setting (as I do too), but it so great to be able to offer this option, rather than risk losing a good volunteer.

With that said, I’m going ahead and ordering two more sets!

I would be happy to be part of your testimonials!  I really do believe this is a great way to capture a wide range of volunteers.  Most of my retired volunteers have the ability to be flexible with training classes, etc.; however, I’ve found it is the working person, young, to middle-age professionals, who are eager to have this form of training available.

Jan 2008:  The response from the pilot training program was good.  Most of the “graduates” have been in the field for 6 weeks now and are doing well with client contacts.  I give your training program a gold star!!!  It allows me the flexibility to offer so many more classes.

Jan 2010:  ... we had our first potential volunteer begin yesterday. She really liked the ease of viewing the training and thought the information was great.  I loved the fact that she could start her training at her convenience and the time she and I spent together was real quality time spent getting to know one another and to answer her questions or concerns.
